Revolutionizing Lead Line Replacement: The ACME Pipe Winch Delivers Efficiency and Precision

Dave Williams

We’ve been pulling lead lines for over six years. Back in 2017, we took notice of a city in Michigan that was replacing all of their lead lines using a backhoe, and pulling them — a trenchless process. And that worked, but we wanted to create a stronger, and a more controllable process. The winch seemed like a good alternative. I could use my mini excavator instead of larger equipment to provide the pulling power needed, and the pulling cable remains safely contained in the access pit. And of critical importance, by using the winch, the original bury depth would be maintained. The winch eliminated the need for larger equipment on site just to make a pull.

Trenchless excavation techniques are preferred when replacing private and public-side water service lines. By using the ACME Pipe Winch, utility companies and municipalities can avoid the disruptive open cuts to streets, terraces, and private property and the time-consuming and expensive property restoration.

Years of field trials and hundreds of pulls have gone into the development of the ACME Pipe Winch. Our committed to refining the winch and ensuring its reliability has led us in her development. Give us a call, we would enjoy hearing about your successes and also your challenges. We’re proud to say our ACME Pipe Winch and other ACME products are made in the U.S.A.
